The Raw Food Challenge
>> Wednesday, April 22, 2009
Its been nearly 2 months since my first detox diet, and I'm not as fanatical as I was when I came off the diet, but have managed to keep raw food in my diet daily. As I am researching blogs, tweets, facebook etc on healthy living, I've been really surprised by what passes for a daily diet for a lot of people. Its no wonder that we're all feeling sub-par.
So here is the challenge. Forget about labels. Forget about diets.
Focus on the food. Focus on tastes.
For ONE day, challenge yourself to eat RAW only.
What's RAW? Anything that isn't cooked.
Try veggie juice for breakfast. Try some oatmeal or wholegrain flax cereal made with water. Add some fresh strawberries or blueberries.
Drink lots of water (distilled or spring), and herbal teas (yogi teas are great. try peppermint).
For lunch, pack yourself a salad - lots of spinach or lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, sweet peppers, avocado, celery, sprouts. If you are hungry, eat some more crunchy salad. For dressing, try a tablespoon of Flax Oil mixed with Balsamic Vinegar. Keep it as pure as you can. Yum.
Add some fruit for snacks. Fresh of course.
Dinner is a challenge - try a basic soup (recipes on this blog), or try some sauted kale with garlic, with some baked salmon. Ok so its not raw, but its still pretty healthy.
How do you feel? Day 1 might be tough, but if you start incorporating raw food into 2 or 3 meals per day, you will notice a change within a few days.
Life is too short to let it go by while you are watching calories, or nutritional content, or serial dieting. Focus on the food. Focus on the taste. Eat Right. Eat Raw.
