Surviving trans-atlantic flight without coffee??

>> Friday, March 27, 2009

Greetings from Ireland. Wish you were here!

I've been up for 2 straight days (well if you don't count a few restless ZZZ on the flight from New York to Dublin), but I'm still smiling.... why? I've just realized that I've managed to keep going today without propping myself up with coffee.

After spending over 15 hrs in airports and airplanes (there were lots of delays yesterday) I stepped off the overnight flight this morning in Dublin, and instead of hitting the coffee bar, I hit the juice bar (I was VERY happy to see a juice bar after coming through arrivals - that is a major personal change since my last trip home in Nov 08!). I scanned their menu for all the vegetable juices, and was a bit disappointed to see that their "Detox Juice" was about their only real selection of veggies - and it just had celery. They give me a funny look when I asked if they had any other veggies, like broccoli or kale, or spinach. So when that was a "No", I asked them to add in some carrots and to make it a large one!

So, with my juice in hand, I rented my car and did the 2 hr drive down to Monaghan. Then I drank loads of tea (well it is the Irish way)....

But I didn't get that awful post coffee mixed with jet lag letdown....and I managed to keep going all day with lots of energy and no power-nap.

But its 11pm Irish time and I've got a wedding to go to tomorrow, so I had better get my beauty sleep. Its my chance to show off that size 6 dress that I can now fit into thanks to the Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet. Thank you Dr. Roni!

Detox Supplies

Juice of the Day

Carrot, Apple & Ginger

You will need: 1 apple, 3-4 carrots, and a slice of ginger.

Juice the apple and carrots and ginger slice in the juicer. Serve immediately!

Delicious!

This is a juice that I use as a baseline for other juices. To add more "power" try adding the following ingredients:

- Stick of Celery
- Handful of Alfalfa sprouts
- Some kale, spinach, other leafy greens

Soup of the Day - the healthy way!

Butternut Squash & Orange Juice

Split a butternut squash down the middle, and scoop out the seeds and set aside. Wash & dry and place on a baking tray. Place a tablespoon of orange juice in the cavity. Cover with foil and bake in a 375 deg. oven for about 45 mins - 1 hr. Test the flesh with a fork - when its soft, its done! Meanwhile, while the squash is cooking, wash the seeds, removing fibers of flesh, and place on a baking tray to dry. Remove baked squash from the oven and allow to cool. Pour the OJ into a blender, and scoop out all of the flesh into the blender, discarding the skins. Puree the squash, and then pour into a saucepan. Add about 6 cups of distilled or spring water (do not use tap water, as it contains chlorine etc which defeats your healthy mission). Bring to the boil and its ready to eat!

When the seeds have dried, bake them in the oven for 30 mins until roasted. Sprinkle on top of the soup and serve.

Enjoy!
