Don’t Sweat It!

What the TV Ads don't tell you about anti-perspirant...

It’s been 4 weeks since I wrapped up my 21 day detox diet, and I just noticed something that has really surprised me - I barely have to use deodorant these days. I guess I’m just not sweating it!!

I had read in the 21 pounds in 21 days book that sweating was a sign of having lots of toxins in your body and I did notice that I wasn’t sweating as much in my second week on the detox diet. But I’m very happy to report that 4 weeks later, it’s still the same. Obviously I must be doing something right in my post-detox regime.

While I was pondering how to share this revelation with everyone, I thought that the antiperspirant production companies wouldn’t want to read this blog. It’s not that I’m a huge fan of body odor (I’m not) but I don’t like the way the industry is heading with recent promotions of over the counter clinical strength antiperspirant. Does anyone ever read the list of toxic chemical ingredients in these products?? We roll on aluminum under our arms on a daily basis, and wonder why the world is seeing more degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s…

If you haven’t heard much in the press about the downsides of these products, check out these links:

The good news is that there are now some great products out on the market that are chemical free deodorants, and most are available in large grocery stores rather than select health food stores. Look in the organic/health aisle in your local store. Try Jason deodorant, Tom’s of Maine, Earth Science…and more. The not so good news currently is that these are a little more pricy than your average chemical laden variety, but the prices are decreasing as more people are making the decision to switch to these products.

The really good news is that if you do the 21 day detox, you may also see your need for these products decrease – so much so that you might one day turn up at work and realize midday that you forgot to apply deodorant, but it was no big deal….you just weren’t sweating it!

Has anyone else had the same experience? I'd love to hear your comments...

You are so right about this. Since I started eating a raw diet I noticed that I use less and less deodorant. On some days, as you stated, I don't put it on at all. I use Tom of Maines. It does cost a little more, but because I use less it balances out.

Detox Supplies

Juice of the Day

Carrot, Apple & Ginger

You will need: 1 apple, 3-4 carrots, and a slice of ginger.

Juice the apple and carrots and ginger slice in the juicer. Serve immediately!

Delicious!

This is a juice that I use as a baseline for other juices. To add more "power" try adding the following ingredients:

- Stick of Celery
- Handful of Alfalfa sprouts
- Some kale, spinach, other leafy greens

Soup of the Day - the healthy way!

Butternut Squash & Orange Juice

Split a butternut squash down the middle, and scoop out the seeds and set aside. Wash & dry and place on a baking tray. Place a tablespoon of orange juice in the cavity. Cover with foil and bake in a 375 deg. oven for about 45 mins - 1 hr. Test the flesh with a fork - when its soft, its done! Meanwhile, while the squash is cooking, wash the seeds, removing fibers of flesh, and place on a baking tray to dry. Remove baked squash from the oven and allow to cool. Pour the OJ into a blender, and scoop out all of the flesh into the blender, discarding the skins. Puree the squash, and then pour into a saucepan. Add about 6 cups of distilled or spring water (do not use tap water, as it contains chlorine etc which defeats your healthy mission). Bring to the boil and its ready to eat!

When the seeds have dried, bake them in the oven for 30 mins until roasted. Sprinkle on top of the soup and serve.

Enjoy!
